Shopping; it’s what women love to do. Even some men enjoy the experience of shopping. The only thing that could make shopping even better is the idea of shopping for fashionable clothing at the same time you’re helping a charity raise money for a good cause.

The New York Foundling hosted a charity event October 22 at fashion designer Cynthia Rowley’s location in West Village. The event benefited children and families in need. Rowley’s designs were made available at a 10 percent discount, with 10 percent of the purchase price going to the designer’s favorite charitable causes.

This is just one example of exactly how fashion fundraisers are changing the face of fundraising and charitable giving.

Designer discounts

What makes fashionable fundraisers so appealing is the fact that they allow people to shop for the designer ensembles they desire at a discounted price. Designers who get on board with these fundraisers donate items for sale at far less than standard prices, which allows buyers to have one-of-a-kind pieces at a discount.

This type of event draws in a fashionable crowd with money to spend. The more unique and exciting a designer item, the more money the attendees are willing to spend. There are few things women enjoy as much as shopping for luxury designer items at a discount; knowing their money is going to help a charity is just icing on the proverbial cake.

Designer auctions

Something else you should know about fashionable fundraisers is the fact they often include an auction. When designers or designer collectors offer luxury items for auction, they’re typically very expensive and exclusive.

Women with money to spend want to know that the piece being auctioned is a unique piece, a vintage work, or a one-time-only article created by a high-end designer for a client. Many of these pieces are those owned by celebrities or worn by famous people at a high-profile event.

Fashion shows

Finally, the third way that charities and those who raise funds for them enjoy making a fundraising event even more fashionable is with a fashion show. When guests of a fundraiser get to participate in a fashion show where they get to view models wearing high-end designer wear, they want even more to own those pieces.

Typically, what occurs following the event is that guests enjoy the opportunity to purchase the items worn in the show. This can be done through a silent auction, at booths, or in any number of ways. It’s a simple way to make a fundraiser even more fashionable.

Corporate donations

If you represent a corporation, one way you can improve your online reputation is to assist a worthwhile charity in raising money by hosting a fashionable fundraiser. In hosting this kind of event, your corporation will make an announcement that you’re offering a substantial contribution to the charity of your choice.

All charities benefit greatly from your corporate donations, but those such as the American Cancer Society and others that help to fight and cure childhood diseases are among the most deserving, because they help not just those in need today, but perhaps someone close to you or your fellow donors in the future.

When your clients become aware of your active support for and donations to charities, they’re more likely to want to work with you. Philanthropic behavior such as this improves your reputation and gives clients a favorable opinion of your business dealings.

Charitable events always benefit those in need, but they truly give a helping hand to those in need when the event is so exciting and appealing to the guests that record donations flow in. By making an event something guests want to attend in order to gain something for themselves, chances are good your charity will meet and exceed its fundraising target.
