Want to update your makeup look for 2012? Incorporate any of these makeup colors into your every day routine. It’s a fast and easy way to keep your look ‘current’ without breaking your bank account. The good news is that these trends are flattering and easy to pull off!
Tangerine
Pantone declared an orange red called ‘Tangerine Tango’ as its 2012 color of the year. Since most of us can’t pull off the runway look of tangerine eyeliner, reach for a tangerine lipstick or nailpolish instead. Here’s a tip from makeup artists: when you’re applying a bright lipstick color, soften the edges with a cotton bud. And keep you eyes simple: just a sweep of a neutral eyeshadow from brow to lid to clean up the eye area, and then eyeliner. Read our 7 tips for fabulous lipstick.
Glossy brown
Add a litle shine to the brown eyeshadow you’ve been wearing all these years. Try applying a moisturizing eye cream over copper eyeshadow, or reach for a glossy cream eyeshadow. This look can be very neutral if you stick to browns that are a little closer to your skin tone. Apply eyeshadow base to help eyeshadow last longer—cream eyeshadows tend to smudge and fade faster.
Petal pink and apricot
Layer pink over apricot or peach blush to create a deeper and more dimensional color. Cream blush lets your skin show through, so it looks more like a natural flush. Applying powder on top can help ‘set’ the color and make it last longer, especially if you’re too busy to retouch frequently. Keep colors on the apples of your cheeks but blend well.
Pearly white
White eyeshadow really opens up the eye area and makes you look wide awake. You can apply all over your lids or keep it to the inner corners and just under the brow for a more subtle look. If you have a darker skin tone substitute with a shimmering champagne eyeshadow instead—it looks more natural.
Cherry red
Red lipstick is always in trend, but this year most makeup artists are reaching for a cherry red that is bright and shiny, rather than the deep reds of yore. If you have a light skin tone use a blue based red, if you are darker try something with a hint of orange.
Violet
Lilac and violet nails are all the rage on runways, and this look translates well in real life too. This color looks best on short nails.
Chocolate brown
Trade your black eyeliner for a creamy chocolate brown liner. First apply a dark pencil along the lash line before applying a smudged chocolatel ine along the upper and lower lash lines. The black pencil subtly defines and darkens the lashes but the brown softens the look.
Peachy pink
A peach pink lip gloss is this year’s ‘nude lip.’ One way to get this look is to apply a soft pink lipstick and then apply a peach gloss over the center.
Silver gray
Autumn/Fall 2011 was all about metallics, but this year makeup artists are reaching for a softer silvery gray eyeshadow—which is subtle and a bit more understated. Try this for your evening party makeup.
