4 Natural Ingredients Effective in Removing Pet Stains

Rugs play an important role in the home. They help keep the house clean by collecting dirt at areas with high foot traffic. In addition, they also serve an aesthetic purpose particularly those that blend well to the overall design theme of the room.

But like any functional part of a home, these rugs need to be kept clean regularly and cared for so they can last long. Any homeowner should make sure to use only cleaning materials that don’t contain harsh ingredients or chemicals.

Going natural is highly recommended. It’s not only good for your family and pets but best for the environment as well.

Here then are pet stain removal tips that involve the use of natural and non-toxic cleaning materials. When used property, they can help you clean rugs and lengthen their lifespan.

Baking Soda

Many people get surprised when they find out the various uses of baking soda in the home outside of the kitchen. Yes, this ingredient is an effective cleaning ingredient and one that’s effective for your rugs as well. It also deodorizes, softens water and scours making it easy to clean surfaces and other materials.

Baking soda is normally mixed with vinegar to create an all purpose cleaner. The ideal formula is mixing 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup baking and half gallon or two liters of water. This mixture can remove stains.

White Vinegar

Pure, distilled white vinegar in particular is helpful in removing stains, grease and wax build-up. Mix it with equal parts water and put in a spray bottle.

When getting rid of stains from rugs, simply spray the mixture directly on the stain spot and let it sit for a few minutes. Next, blot the area with a towel or sponge or clean it with a sponge or brush using warm soapy water.

Cornstarch

Cornstarch is also a natural ingredient effective in cleaning carpets, rugs, windows and furniture. To remove grease spots in your rug, sprinkle cornstarch on the area and wait for 15 to 30 minutes before vacuuming.

Lemon

Being a citrus fruit, lemon is high in citric acid and as such, is a great cleaning ingredient. It is also eco-friendly and acts as an antioxidant. In addition, the juice of lemon contains natural enzymes that are capable of breaking down organic matter.

In removing stains, lemon can be used not only on fabric but also on surfaces including hardwood furniture and floors. You can mix two tablespoons of pure lemon juice with three cups of hot water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Freshly squeezed lemon or the bottled one would do.
