Any family can go to a theme park and camp in the forest. But it takes an especially brave soul to visit these spookiest places on Earth. You’ll meet the most interesting people (granted, some are already dead), and definitely have an interesting story to tell at your next cocktail party.

Aokigahara Forest, Japan
The Aokigahara Forest is located at the foot of Mount Fuji. The area within and surrounding the forest have caverns that are covered with ice all year round. People report that any paranormal phenomena is experienced within the forest. People claim seeing strange creatures, goblins and monsters.
But Aokigahara Forest also has another reputation that has made it a really scary place to be in – it is the most popular place to commit suicide in Japan. Yearly, dozens of bodies are found in the forest. These are people who go specifically to Aokigahara Forest to take their lives. People have reported seeing ghosts and other apparitions when visiting the forest or trekking across the many trails that are found there.
The Coliseum, Italy
The ancient Coliseum is one of the most popular buildings in the world. At the height of the Roman Empire, the Coliseum represented the unparalleled power of the Empire in the Old World. The building was, for all intents and purposes, an arena where Romans can watch gladiators fight each other to the death or witness captured enemies of the Empire and Christians put to death using various inventive methods. These brutal acts were done for the amusement of the spectators.
It is no wonder that it is considered one of the most haunted places on earth. According to tourists, visitors and tour guides, numerous cold spots can be felt in various areas of the Coliseum. Others have reported being touched or pushed with no one near them. Security guards claim to have heard the clash of swords, crying and even the sound of animals like lions and elephants. A regular sighting is said to be a Roman soldier that looks like he is on guard in the middle of the night.
Auchswitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, Poland
World War II was a time of great turmoil and great suffering for many people, least of all for the Jews who were exterminated by the Nazis in Europe. One of the places where this atrocity was committed is in the Auchswitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp in Poland. No one knows the exact number of people killed in these concentration camps, but the inhumane actions perpetrated there has had an intense impact to this day. It is reported that birds refuse to sing in the areas surrounding the camp. Visitors to the camp report cold spots and places where one would suddenly feel intense emotional anguish. It is not uncommon to see people who are making a tour of the place suddenly burst out crying. Apparitions and spiritual manifestations have also been reported.
Unit 731 Experimentation Camp, China
This concentration camp in China was the place where the Japanese doctors who conducted gruesome experiments on the Chinese. The Chinese prisoners, who were called ‘logs’ by the Japanese, were subjected to various experiments like deliberately infecting them with bubonic plague, cholera and anthrax. To gauge the effects of the disease, the infected prisoners were then vivisected while still alive and with no anesthesia. Others were used in conducting frostbite experiments. Groups of people were placed inside holding areas and then bombs detonated near them to study what the effects of explosions are to the human body.
The kind of inhumane suffering that the prisoners in 731 Experimentation camp suffered is beyond human comprehension. It is no wonder that the place is now one of the most haunted places on earth. People report seeing ghostly apparitions and unnatural lights floating in the air. There are also reports of an apparition walking the corridors where the frostbite experiments were conducted.
The underground catacombs in France was constructed as a way of making space above for the exploding population. Millions of buried bodies from several cemeteries were disinterred and then transferred to the catacombs specially made for this purpose.
It is an eerie feeling going down to these places and seeing innumerable bones and skulls. With such close proximity to the remains of the dead, it is not surprising that visitors have experienced truly scary things while there. People have reported being grabbed or touched by unseen hands. Others have reported seeing shadows congregating in certain areas of the catacombs when no one else is there.
