It’s been a long day at work, and part of you just wants to collapse in front of the TV and drown your sorrows in chips and reality shows. But you’ve got a date, and in the next hour you have to transform yourself from stressed-out to sexy. Here are some tips.
Take a long, relaxing bath
You’ll feel refreshed, and (as studies on aromatherapy show) strategic use of scents can immediately lift your mood. Try a bergamot or mint shower gel to clear your head, or a light citrus to make you feel cheerful and optimistic. End the bath with a light body oil—it’ll moisturize your skin and help your perfume last longer, too!
Wear your sexiest underwear
Even if your date doesn’t actually get to see it (not yet, anyway), it’ll make you feel more fun and feminine.
Spritz on your favorite perfume
Men tend to find florals, vanilla and musks very sexy, but remember that perfume is a very personal thing. Find one that you feel is right for your personality and your body chemistry—what smells great on your best friend may smell like bathroom cleanser on you. Spray on your wrists, the inside of your behind your ears (so he’ll catch a whiff of it when he leans over to talk to you), on your décolletage, and behind the backs of your knees.
Play happy music and think happy thoughts
If you’ve had a bad day, play your favorite upbeat songs as you get dressed and on your drive to your meeting area. If that doesn’t help, take deep breaths and give yourself a positive pep talk. Recite the top 10 things that you like about yourself. Think of one good thing that you’re grateful for. Look at websites with cute kittens and sparkling rainbows. Watch the craziest Youtube clips you can find. Anything—anything!—that will get you to smile. Your date doesn’t deserve to be greeted with a scowl (after all, he went through all the trouble to meet you!) and neither of you will enjoy dinner if you’re whining or whimpering the whole time.
Take off the pressure
You’ll only feel more stressed and tired if you think of this date as this great show to impress or snag some guy. Instead, tell yourself it’s a chance to meet someone new who—even if it doesn’t work out—may become a good friend. At the very least it’s a chance to get out, try a good restaurant, and wear your favorite dress.
