Yes, but some types of jewelry are more susceptible to damage. Jewelers measure this vulnerability with a gem-trade standard called
the Mohs scale. The higher the number, the stronger and harder it is. The hardest stone is diamonds (scale rating 10) but those with a Mohs scale rating of 7 and below (pearls, turqoiuise, coral, lapis lazuli) are very vulnerable. Metals like gold and silver only have a Mohs rating of 2 to 2 and a half.
