If your resume has gaps — years when you weren’t officially connected with any company — try to put a positive spin on it during your job interview.
For example: “I decided to take a few years off to take care of my kids. I am glad I was able to focus on them during those formative years, but staying at home also made me realize that I really love having a career, and that I have a true passion for (INDUSTRY). During that time, I was also able to take on several projects that honed my management skills (then you can talk about handling any school projects, community programs, etc, or online classes, etc.).”
Or, if you quit your job to start a business that didn’t work out: “My home business didn’t work out, but it gave me a great network and skill set. (Proceed to enumerate.)”
