How to make a boring office wardrobe more interesting

July 30, 2012 by MomDine Leave a Comment

Neutrals like gray and khaki are safe, but they can also look drab and uninspired. Colors can add life and personality to your look — because even if you follow the office dress code, you should still be able to express your personality through your outfits. Just take a cute from Kate Middleton!

Try a bold red lipstick

Red lipstick is sexy and powerful. The trick is to keep your eye makeup simple (just eyeliner and mascara), and add just enough color to the cheeks so you don’t look pale. To prevent red lipstick from smearing, color your entire lip with lip liner, then apply lipstick with a lip brush. Blot and repeat. And remember, when you wear a bold lipstick your foundation must be flawless If you’re in a hurry, use BB cream, a multi-purpose product that offers coverage, SPF and anti-aging benefits. Experiment with eyeshadows

If you’re new to colored eyeshadow, start with a ‘wash’: pick one color and sweep from the lash line to just above the crease. You can also apply a darker color along the lash line (try combining dark brown and purple to get a gorgeous plum). Your secret weapon is a good eye shadow brush that lets you blend the color well. Keep your lipstick color neutral—try light pink glosses or pinkish brown cream lipsticks.

Try a different scent

Scents can make you feel seductive or sweet, powerful or innocent. They are your secret accessory: people may not see it, but they’ll unconsciously pick up the ‘vibe’ that you are sending out.

Show a little skin

If you’re covered up from head to toe you’ll look like a mummy! The trick is to balance: if your sweater covers your arms, then pick a shirt that has a wider neckline. If you’re wearing a short skirt, pair it with a more modest top. Showing even a little bit of skin can help you feel feminine and sexy, even if you’re wearing office-appropriate attire.

Wear an interesting accessory

Trinkets, shoes, or even a statement bag can help inject your own personality into the strictest dress code. Try adding a colorful belt to a black shift dress, or pin a one of a kind brooch to your black jacket.
