False eyelashes are a great way to step up your makeup look. You can get very theatrical, dramatic false eyelashes or a more natural set that just accents your eyeshape or make your sparse lashes look thicker. Pick whatever you want. However, trimming your false eyelashes will make them look more natural… almost like they’re real! Here are some tips.
First get a pair of small scissors like the ones used on nails or nosehairs. Peel the lashes from the packaging and measure them against your eye, laying them flat from your inner corner to your outer corner. Trim them to size or they will poke into your eye. With practice and trial and error you’ll know what’s best for you.
Now for ‘customizing’ each lash length. Hold the scissors with the tip pointing into the lashes, not straight across. This lets you ‘feather’ the shape, by cutting each lash one at a time, starting on one end and then working your way to the other. The trick is that no consecutive lashes are the same length. This makes it look more natural. Remember that no lash should be shorter than a quarter of an inch. While there should be some kind of distinct curve, it should not be too perfect—otherwise it will look too fake.
If you want the lashes to look really natural, then the outer lashes should be longer than the inner lashes. And remember that no lash is a perfect ‘rainbow’ arc. Making the curve a little lopsided will help them look much better.
