How to score even better discounts at outlet stores

July 16, 2012 by Katerina 1 Comment

Outlet stores are a bargain shoppers’ haven. You can snag up to 90% off, or walking away with bags and bags of items that are no longer available in the malls. Here are some tips on securing the best discounts and spotting the best finds.

Know what’s out there

Find the locations of different outlet stores so you can really see which ones carry what you want and offer the best shopping incentives.

Ask if you can use coupons

Scour the web for coupons and come prepared. Who knows, you can get additional discounts—on top of the 50% the outlet store is already offering.

Save on gas

You may not even have to drive all the way to the outlet store! If you’re lusting after a particular item, then find out the style name and the item code and then call the outlet. They may be able to ship it to you! This is best for items that you’ve already tried, and know you love.

Check the damaged rack

While some items are really beyond repairing, you may be able to snag great discounts on those that just got dirty or wrinkled. Be sure to inspect it very thoroughly in strong light, and be realistic about whether or not you’ll be able to use it or repair it. While you can probably have the lopsided hem of a dress repaired, if you don’t see yourself going to a seamstress or tailor to have it fixed, it will end up gathering dust in the back of your closet for years. Remember it’s not a bargain if you just wasted money on something you’ll never use!

Ask about total discounts

Will you get additional discounts if you accumulate a certain amount of purchases? Then shop with a friend, or buy in bulk for holiday gifts.
