Quit Smoking With These Helpful Tips

October 3, 2012 by o5 2 Comments

Some Kills

There’s no denying it. Smoking is dangerous for your health and can kill you. If you love yourself and really care for your loved ones then there’s only one thing to do. Quit smoking.

Quitting smoking may be a very tough thing to do if you read about the testimonials of people who have tried to quit, but nothing’s impossible if you really put your mind to it. If you are truly determined to quit smoking you can follow some of these wonderful tips given by people who have been through the same journey and can now proudly say they have kicked their habits.

Prepare yourself

Now that you’ve decided to quit smoking, you need to truly prepare yourself in both mind and body. Smoking is an addiction and, truthfully, it will be a tough road ahead of you. Make it a little easier to handle by internalizing your resolve. Write about it in your journal, tell your loved ones that you are finally going to kick the habit, join online forums for people who are trying to quit smoking, and remove temptations in your home. Part of the preparation is planning. You just can’t say “I’ll quit” without a concrete plan. Don’t worry if you don’t follow your plan to the letter. Putting it on paper makes it real enough and it will motivate you.

Totally Quit, No Excuses

Majority of ex-smokers have one tip for successfully kicking the habit. Quit. That means stopping cold turkey. All those plans of gradual reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked has a very low success rate for the simple reason that it is easy to trick yourself into thinking that one extra cigarette for the day won’t hurt your plans. Making a clean break tells your body that you mean business. It’s harder, yes, but it pays off in the end.

Join a Support Group

Just like any addiction – drugs, alcohol or gambling – the journey to freedom gets a little easier if you have other people who are going through the same battles with you in your group. Support groups can help you tremendously. They can offer encouragement and advice and you can do the same thing, which also makes your struggles more valid.

Change The Routine

One of the most common reasons people smoke is when they want to relieve stress or as a compliment to their coffee. Association can be a powerful thing so what you need to do is make new associations. Drink tea instead of coffee. When you’re stressed do another activity. These are simple changes that will help you disassociate from the process of smoking. If you’re still having problems disassociating, you can trick your body by using devices like a vapestick – e-cigarettes that harmless. Just get nicotine-free cartridges.

People Fail, Get Over IT

If you slide off, don’t worry. Yes, you may have erased some of that hard work, but the best thing to do is to learn from it and tackle the issue with a stronger resolve. Studies have shown that many smokers would fail their first few attempts at quitting before they actually succeed. You’re in good company.

Quitting smoking is an uphill battle but with resolve and commitment you will succeed.
