Skin care resolutions for a gorgeous year

December 31, 2011 by SoulSeeker Leave a Comment

Fashion trends come and go, but there’s one thing that never goes out of style: beautiful skin. With these great skincare resolutions, you’ll look and feel fabulous from head to toe—and that’s even before you put on your clothes!

Moisturize right after you take a bath

A hot shower is relaxing, but the heat can strip off the body’s natural oils. The secret is to moisturize the minute you step out of the shower. Keep a bottle of body lotion or body oil right in the bathroom and apply right after you towel off. Aside from the lotion’s moisturizing benefits, this traps the moisture that’s still clinging to your skin.

Wear sunscreen

We can’t emphasize enough how sun damage can make you look old and wrinkly and increases your risk for skin cancer. If you can’t stand the greasy formulas or the heavy feeling, reach for a sunscreen spray. This feels lighter but does need to be reapplied more often, especially if you’re outdoors and sweating a lot.

Take off makeup before you sleep

Makeup has ingredients that clog your skin and may even trap the dirt. But yeah, I know—sometimes we’re just too tired to drag ourselves to the sink. One trick is to wash your face the moment you get home, instead of waiting until you’re ready to haul off the bed. Stock up on makeup remover wipes that you can keep by the bedside or the sofa in front of the TV, so you can wipe off the grime while you’re watching your favorite show.

Have a doctor check your moles

Any changes in color, size and appearance of a mole needs to be looked into, since this a possible sign of skin cancer. Have yourself checked this year!

Exfoliate

Our skin renewal process slows down as we grow older. That’s why our skin cells look dull. To speed up the skin renewal process, exfoliate once a week and then use a chemical exfoliate once a week. Do moisturize right afterwards to restore your skin’s moisture.

Treat your hands right

We spend a fortune on our facecare and forget to pamper our hands, which can show off our age! Moisturize frequently and trade drying anti-bacterial gels with one that has moisturizing benefits.

Clean your makeup brushes

These harbor bacteria which can cause breakouts. Wash them in lukewarm soapy water once a month and, if you use makeup everyday, invest in a brush cleaning spray.

Don’t keep switching products

It takes at least 6 weeks for a moisturizer,anti-aging or skin lightening product to yield results. So wait it out before switching products. Changing too frequently, or introducing too many new products to your face at the same time, may cause breakouts or irritations.
