Strawberries are very delicious. But strawberries are quite delicate and they are not just easily bruised but they also spoil easily. If you have a lot of strawberries at home, freezing them is a great way of preserving it, which will allow you to enjoy these yummy fruits all year round.
Preserving strawberries is very easy to do. But just remember that strawberries that have been frozen and then thawed will most often not retain its original shape. That’s why frozen strawberries are best used as sauces, jams, smoothies or as ingredients in various baked products. Make sure that when you freeze strawberries leave enough room in the jars or containers.
You can freeze strawberries without using sugar. First, wash the strawberries, discarding any fruits that are damaged, discolored or moldy. Remove the stems and leaves with a knife.
Put the strawberries in a baking sheet and arrange them so that they are close to each other but not touching. Put the sheet in the ref for at least an hour then put the sheets into the freezer and leave it there overnight.
When the berries have completely frozen, put them in an airtight container or plastic bag and put them back in the freezer.
You can also crush or slice the strawberries before you prepare them for the freezer. Just put the sliced or crushed strawberries in airtight containers. If you do decide to slice them, add in a quart of water that has a tablespoon and a half of lemon juice into the container. The lemon juice mixture will help in preserving the color of the strawberries.
If, however, you want to preserve strawberries with sugar syrup this is how you’ll do it.
First, clean and prepare the strawberries as mentioned above. On the side, make the sugar syrup, which consists of one cup of sugar for every one and one-fourth cups of water. Allow the sugar to dissolve in the water. Pour the syrup over the berries, which you have put in containers. Seal the container after this and it is ready for freezing.
You can also freeze the strawberries with sugar without having to make a syrup. First, prepare the strawberries as described above. Put the whole, sliced or crushed strawberries in a bowl and put in the sugar directly into the strawberries. Stir everything very gently until the sugar is dissolved. Put them in a container and freeze them.
