Super glue is one of the most amazing inventions of the modern world. Just ask any person who’s had to deal with a broken piece of anything and you’ll hear them praise the wonders of super glue. Who wouldn’t be impressed by a substance that can be used to on almost any material and then bind it together so effectively, it could even be tougher than when it was in its original state. It’s really an amazing product – until it gets in your clothes.
Getting super glue out of clothes is very difficult, much more if it gets into denim because the fabric’s texture has many creases where the glue can get into, which makes it double harder to remove. Fortunately there are several methods you can use to remove super glue from your jeans.
One method you can use is by employing heat. Use a flat iron to literally iron out the super glue. One of the properties of super glue is that it dries quickly. It dries so fast that when it gets on to your jeans, you won’t even have time to blot it out. By applying heat to the glue, it will melt once again, which will make it easier to remove. Take some paper towels and place it on top of the affected area in your jeans. Iron the area until the glue begins to melt. When the glue melts it will be absorbed by the paper towels. Replace the towels with a fresh one and repeat the process until all of the super glue has melted and transferred to the paper towels.
If the heat method is not enough to remove the super glue stain, you can use the other methods. One method is by using nail polish remover, which has properties that can help dissolve super glue. But before you use this method test the nail polish remover on a small hidden area of the jeans to make sure that the nail polish remover won’t create its own stain or discolor your jeans. If you see that it’s safe to use in your jeans, put some remover on a cotton cloth and dab it on to the super glue stain. The nail polish remover will dissolve the super glue and you can then just completely remove it by using a toothbrush to scrub the residue away.
If you don’t have any nail polish remover at home, lighter fluid is also another substance that can help melt the super glue. Use it the same way you would use the nail polish remover. But make sure that you work in a well ventilated place because the fumes of the lighter fluid could make you dizzy.
