Movie watching is a great pastime. It is a wonderful form of entertainment and one that is very inclusive. You can ask your friends or family to watch movies with you. A big number of people are now preferring to watch movies at the comfort of their own homes. With home theater setups becoming more affordable, watching movies at home is almost like watching a movie in the theater, without the annoying chitchat of strangers and the bad popcorn.
But the best plans can be laid to waste. Nothing can put a damper on your planned movie watching than having your home equipment conk out on you. One of the most frustrating malfunctions is when your DVD player suddenly malfunctions with your DVD still inside it. What do you do if your DVD player doesn’t want to turn on and you need to retrieve your DVD? Here are some tips:
* Before taking more ‘drastic’ steps try to exhaust all available ‘obvious’ options first. At the very least, check to see if the player is still plugged into the outlet, there is no power interruption or the cord is still firmly attached to the player (if it’s the removable type of cord). Consult your owner’s manual and go through the steps described for troubleshooting your player. Try to find out if your DVD player is the type that has an ’emergency mode’ that allows you to retrieve discs if the player malfunctions.
* You can try to contact the technical support provided by the manufacturer of your DVD player. They may be able to help you by providing instructions on how to retrieve the DVD stuck inside your player. They usually have certain tricks that they can teach you.
* In case the first two steps do not help, it’s time to get your hand dirty. You’ll need to get into the DVD player by force. Unplug the player from the electrical outlet to ensure you won’t get an electrical shock. Now look at your player’s chassis. Usually DVD players only have an upper metal chassis that can be easily removed. Look at where all the screws are located then unscrew them, taking note of which screw goes to which hole. Now look for a very tiny button inside. It is usually located at the center. This is an emergency eject feature that is included in almost all players. Just poke the tiny button with a small pin that will reach it and it will manually eject the tray.
