Sometimes, while cutting your dog’s nails, you’ll accidentally cut into the sensitive part called the ‘quick.’ This has sensitive nerve endings and your dog will yelp in pain.
Calm down your dog with a soothing voice and a hug. The nail will bleed for about 5 minutes (any more and you should call your vet). Don’t allow your dog to lick the nail, which will encourage bleeding. Try to stop bleeding by pressing tissue paper against it. Or, use a styptic pen, which will immediately stop bleeding. This is available at pet stores.
