Ramadan is a special period of the year for Muslims all over the world. It is held on the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts for the entire month. During this period, Muslims go on a fast – from food, drink, and other physical needs – during the day. The focus is on purification of one’s soul and body, as well as on being closer to Allah.
Fasting during Ramadan also includes abstaining from evil thoughts, words, and actions. Muslims are called upon to meditate and focus on worship and other spiritual things. At night, people can congregate to pray and read from the Qu’ran.
