Planning a holiday party? Here are some ideas on how to throw a fun, fabulous and unforgettable event that still fits your budget. Many of these tips are really easy and just take a little planning, creativity, and maybe some help with your friends (which can make organizing just as fun as the day itself!)
Customize your invites
Choose a party theme and then make invites that reflect it. For example, you can stick little holly sprigs (you can buy bundles of them at craft stores). If you’re organizing cocktails, attach a swizzle stick. Send the invites at least two weeks ahead of time.
Budget decorating ideas
Get amazing serving ware at eBay, garage sales, or borrowing from friends. Votive candles in small water glasses can help create dramatic lighting. Raid your Christmas decor for instant glamour: place christmas balls in a large bowl, or hang globe ornaments from ceilings where they can catch the light. Use tinsel as napkin rolls. Print out small photos of friends and hang around wine glass for customized wine glass tags.
Whip up a specialty cocktail
Look through cocktail recipes to find one drink that has a dramatic color. Mix up a large batch and then organize a self-serve bar. Just keep it stocked with ice (allot a pound per guest) glasses, napkins and alcohol.
Prep your music selection
Compile a crazy disco compilation that will make guests laugh and dust off their 70s moves. Ask a friend who’s into music to help you with your playlist—better yet, ask several, and ask guests to ‘vote’ for the best sounds of the night. (Read this article for more easy ways to set a party mood.)
