Makeup can hide a whole lot of flaws, but wouldn’t it be great to wake up with naturally beautiful skin? Here are some tips for improving your complexion, so you can look great even without a lot of concealer and foundation.
Invest in good skin care products
Clear, lit-from-within skin starts with, well, clean skin. Facial cleansing is the first single most important step in skin care and it must be performed twice daily—upon arising and before bedtime. If you’re too tired for routine bedtime cleansing, keep a pack of pre-moistened makeup removal wipes or pads on your night table so you can easily reach over and wipe your face clean right before you go to sleep.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation happens naturally, thanks to enzymes that trigger old skin to flake off and make way for a fresher, smoother layer. Unfortunately, as we age, our skin loses the hydration needed to activate these exfoliating enzymes. That explains why a five-year-old child doesn’t require exfoliators and moisturizers for a healthy glow, but someone in her thirties does.
Wear sunscreen
Sun damage is responsible for 90% of skin aging. Wear sunscreen, and not just when you’re outdoors or in the middle of summer. UV rays can penetrate windows, and they don’t go away on a cloudy day either. Read the American Academy of Dermatology’s sunscreen guidelines.
Eat a balanced diet
Your skin needs vitamins and minerals, so it’s no surprise that crash diets or tons of junkfood will make it look really dull, really fast. If you’re counting calories, load up on fruits and vegetables, and take a good multi-vitamin and a Vitamin E supplement.
Exercise
Yes, exercise can make your skin look better. Benefits include boosting circulation and even improving the absorption of nutrients–yet another reason to get active!
