Tips on promoting a business on a small budget

January 5, 2011 by Gregory Leave a Comment

One of the biggest factors that would spell success in any business is promoting it. With proper promotions, a business will gain more and more customers, which will increase sales and profits and ultimately lead to the business having the means to expand. It doesn’t matter if the business is large or small, promotions will have the same effect on it.

The difference between a big and small business though will be in how promotional efforts are done. A big business will have deeper pockets and thus will have more options available to them in terms of promotional efforts. But even with fewer funds, a small business will still feel the benefits of promotional efforts if it is chosen correctly and done wisely. Here are some tips that will help you in promoting your business even with a small budget.

Make sure that your product lives up to expectations

Ensure that your product never compromises on quality and value. The best way to lose business is to sell a sub-par product because once the consumer is not satisfied with what you’re selling they won’t go back anymore. Make sure that your products are properly made and quality is ensured. It’s okay to start small and with limited stocks as long as those stocks are something you can be proud of.

Ensure quality service

Apart from quality products, make sure that your customers are assured of great service. Make your customers feel important and you can be assured of repeat business. Great customer service doesn’t even cost you a dime, all it takes is just extra effort and a genuine desire to give your customers that extra special ‘feeling’ that is sure to bring you more business.

Don’t just build customers, build relationships

A small business will only survive with a strong client base. To ensure that your clients will stick with you, build relationships with them. Don’t just look at them as buyers of your product or service, take the extra step of getting to know them by asking and, if possible, memorizing their names. Take the chance to talk to them and give them the kind of treatment that bigger businesses do not offer their clients anymore. This is one of the best ways of building customer loyalty.

Take advantage of the internet

Use the wide reach of the internet to create new clients and open your business to customers from all over the world. Put up a web site and offer your products online. You can also create an online database and send your clients regular updates on your business, your products or service.
